Professor of Paediatrics at Imperial College London since 1993, and a Fellow of the United Kingdom’s Academy of Medical Sciences, Simon Kroll heads the Molecular Infectious Diseases Group at Imperial College, carrying out research into the molecular basis for pathogenesis of septicaemia and meningitis caused by Haemophilus influenzae and Neisseria meningitidis, and the evolution of the gastrointestinal and respiratory tract microbiota in infancy and its contribution to health and disease.

Dirk Van Gysel qualified as a pediatrician at the University of Leuven in Belgium and further subspecialised in pediatric dermatology at the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam the Netherlands. He obtained his PhD at the University of Ghent in Belgium in 2009 with the Aalst Allergy Study.  He started his professional career in the Department of Pediatrics of the O.L.Vrouw Hospital Aalst in Belgium in 1993 and was promoted to head of the department in 1994.
