Dr Buonsenso completed his training and medical residency at The School of Pediatrics at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome, Italy. In 2018 he joined the Department of Woman and Child Health and Public Health at Fondazione Policlinico Universitario as a paediatrician, and in 2022 concluded his PhD in Public Health and Biomolecular Sciences. He has expertise in pediatric infectious diseases, lung ultrasound, and pediatric emergency care. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Buonsenso’s research work included studies around the clinical impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection in children, from acute disease to MIS-C and Long Covid and the indirect impact of the pandemic on child well-being, education and mental health. He is the founder and president of Surf4Children, a non-profit health project that provides people in Sierra Leone with medical support, and helps children in Italy with special needs, cystic fibrosis, and type 1 diabetes.
