Pediatric Endocrinologist, Willem-Alexander Children’s Hospital, Leiden University Medical Center

Christiaan de Bruin is an attending pediatric endocrinologist at Leiden University Medical Center, the Netherlands. He completed his medical training at Erasmus University in Rotterdam, before pursuing post-graduate research for his PhD, which focused on novel medical therapies for Cushing’s disease. After finishing his pediatric residency at Radboud University in Nijmegen, he went on to complete a clinical fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at the prestigious Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in the United States. There, he trained under the guidance of Professor Philippe Backeljauw and Dr. Andrew Dauber, the director of the Cincinnati Center for Growth Disorders.

During his fellowship, Dr. de Bruin’s research activities centered on the application of advanced genetic testing to better understand and treat rare growth disorders, including those affecting both short and tall stature. This research continues to be a cornerstone of his work at Leiden University Medical Center, where he is committed to advancing the understanding and management of growth-related endocrinological conditions.

Through his clinical expertise and research, Dr. de Bruin is making significant contributions to the field of pediatric endocrinology, with a particular focus on the genetic underpinnings of growth disorders and the development of innovative therapies to improve patient outcomes.
