Dr Gillian Wright is a Principal Clinical Psychologist with career in NHS mental health services since 2005, recognised for a creative and adaptable approach to psychological care for children, young people and their families. Driven by a passion for paediatrics, she is committed to delivering holistic care that supports children, young people, and their families as they navigate complex psychological and physical health challenges. Dr Wright has a background in Perinatal and CAMHS Neurodevelopmental services. She is proficient in conducting autism assessments. From her role in perinatal teams, she gained vital experience in supporting families with early developmental concerns for their children. She has practiced in various Paediatric settings including paediatric surgical specialties and more recently gastroenterology services. Her work in paediatric surgical specialties providing specialist psychological assessments and support to children undergoing surgery; focusing on emotional well-being, psychological preparedness to medical procedures and adjustment to health concerns. She is known for her creativity in delivering therapy, especially in co-constructing developmentally- appropriate resources to aid a child’s understanding of their medical condition and treatment. In the paediatric gastroenterology service, she offers psychological support to children experiencing chronic pain, functional gastrointestinal symptoms, and related health challenges. Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams aids holistic care; Dr Wright provides psychological insights that help families understand the gut-brain connection and facilitate psychological adjustment to long-term health conditions. Dr Wright contributes to a MDT approach in ensuring each child receives compassionate support tailored to their unique physical and psychological health needs.
