Professor of Neonatology, Erasmus MC – Sophia Children’s Hospital (NL)
Professor Irwin Reiss is born in Lübeck (Germany). Before he finished his preclinical and clinical studies together with his neonatal/pediatric intensive care fellowship at the Medical University in Lübeck defends his thesis “Development of a non-isotopic sensitive method of a specific specificity for the determination of human growth hormone in serum”. After he was consultant and deputy head of the Unit of Neonatology and Pediatric Intensive Care at the University Hospital in Giessen, he moved to the Netherlands in 2005. From 2005-2011 he works as a consultant at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Erasmus MC – Sophia Children’s Hospital. In 2008 he defends his 2nd PhD thesis “ Injury to the developing lung: clinical and experimental aspects”. In 2011 he is appointed to Professor of Neonatology at the Erasmus MC – Sophia Children’s Hospital and works as Head of the Division of Neonatology. His main focus of research is amongst others cardiopulmonary adaptation of the preterm baby, as well as the pulmonary vascular disease in BPD.
