Founder and Creator Teen Health Week, USA
Laura Offutt MD is an Internal Medicine Physician and has created Real Talk with Dr. Offutt, a digital teen-health resource. She completed her undergraduate degree at Columbia University in NYC, and received her Doctor of Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago. Her professional career has spanned across academic medicine, medical education, research, patient care and pharmaceutical development. Real Talk with Dr. Offutt is a website and social media platform designed to provide teens with relevant, accessible, accurate and unbiased health information where they spend much of their time: online and on social media. Anonymous questions submitted by teens are answered in blog posts where moderated commenting is allowed to encourage engagement. Use of social media takes advantage of the potential to deliver important health information efficiently to this large, diverse, digitally savvy age group in an appealing and approachable way. Dr. Offutt serves as a mentor and advocate for local teens. As part of her work with teens, she proposed the idea for a Pennsylvania Teen Health Week, which she developed with the support of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia and the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Based upon the success of Pennsylvania Teen Health Week, this week is being expanded to a Global Teen Health Week. Dr. Offutt is a Fellow of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia and a member of the American College of Physicians, the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine, and the Pennsylvania Medical Society.
