Professor of Pediatric Neurology at University of Louvain School of Medicine in Brussels, BELGIUM

She serves as pediatric and neonatal epileptologist and neurophysiologist at Saint-Luc University Hospital in Brussels, Belgium. She is the former director of Pediatric Epilepsy Research and director of Neonatal Neuromonitoring at the Benioff Children’s Hospital, UCSF.

 

Before joining UCSF in 2011, she was the Director of Neonatal Neurology and Neurophysiology at the Bambino Gesú Children’s Hospital in Rome, Italy. Dr. Cilio obtained her medical degree at the University of Rome, completed her training in Pediatric Neurology at the University of Louvain, and a fellowship in Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology at the Bambino Gesú Children’s Hospital of Rome, Italy. She earned her PhD at Harvard Medical School working in Dr. Gregory Holmes’s lab on the consequences of seizures in the developing brain. Dr. Cilio was awarded with the UCSF Presidential Chair award in 2011. Her research focus on diagnosis, phenotyping, and treatment of seizures and genetic epilepsies in the neonate. Her H-index is 36.
