Pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition, Emma Children's Hospital, Amsterdam UMC (NL)
Marinde van Lennep (MD) studied medicine at the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Since 2018, she has been studying pediatric gastroesophageal motility disorders as a PhD candidate at the Amsterdam UMC, Emma Children’s Hospital, under the supervision of Dr. van Wijk and Prof. Benninga. Her prime area of interest lies in childhood dysphagia, which is, amongst others, present in children with achalasia, eosinophilic esophagitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and children born with esophageal atresia. Her thesis focuses on the early evaluation and recognition of disordered motility, its effects on quality of life, and the improvement of diagnostic- and treatment strategies for these patients. For the past four years, Marinde brought her research work into clinical practice as a member of the multidisciplinary esophageal atresia team at the Emma Children’s Hospital and at the outpatient clinic for children with achalasia and gastroesophageal reflux disease. To obtain more expertise in the field of swallowing disorders, Marinde has followed the advanced master program of Deglutology at the KU Leuven in 2021-2022. She graduated cum laude and is currently finalizing her PhD.
