Head of the Center of Inborn Pathology in GMS Clinic, Moscow
Natalia Belova is a pediatric endocrinologist and clinical geneticist. She is the head of the Center of Inborn Pathology in GMS Clinic, Moscow. (gmsclinic.ru). After graduating from her Medical University she worked for more than 20 years in the Dept of Clinical Genetics of the Russian State Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery Research Institute as a pediatric endocrinologist, clinical geneticist and senior researcher. Her main fields of interests include short stature syndromes, disturbances of calcium metabolism, hereditary diseases with osteoporosis, mainly osteogenesis imperfecta (OI). The subject of her first thesis (1987) was about treatment strategy of OI and similar disorders and her Doctor's thesis (2000) – diagnostics and treatment of genetic short stature syndromes. Dr Belova practiced as a trainee for 6 months in Guy's hospital (London, UK, 1991), and also visited the School of Clinical genetics (Italy). Her main goal was always to improve the quality of life of patients with genetic and inborn pathology and to give them all the possibilities for the best medical care, education, personal and professional success. It was difficult to do in government institutions which is why In 2006 she organized the Center of Inborn Pathology. Their main specialization is a multidisciplinary approach to the management of pediatric osteoporosis (mainly Osteogenesis Imperfecta), Spina Bifida and rare genetic syndromes. At present it is the only Center in the former USSR, where patients have a full cycle of diagnostics and treatment - from molecular diagnostics to treatment, psychological and legal support. The Center of Inborn Pathology is a private hospital and she is also a member of the Medical Council of OIFE (Osteogenesis Imperfecta foundation of European countries). Dr Belova also works as a medical expert in several charity funds.
