Dr. Paula Bolton-Maggs – Medical Director Serious Hazards of Transfusion (SHOT), the UK national Haemovigilance scheme. Paula trained at both Cambridge and Oxford Universities and has been a consultant haematologist for 25 years, initially as a paediatric haematologist at Alder Hey Childrens’ Hospital in Liverpool and then as a consultant in adult haemostasis and thrombosis at Manchester Royal Infirmary. In 2011 she took up her current appointment as Medical Director of the UK national haemovigilance scheme, Serious Hazards of Transfusion (www.shotuk.org) . Her main research area is Factor XI deficiency. She has had a longstanding interest in both haemostasis and transfusion and has contributed to national British Committee for Standards in Haematology guidelines on paediatric transfusion and appropriate use of FFP and cryoprecipitate. She has published more than 120 peer-reviewed papers and guidelines and is an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Manchester.
