Professor of Paediatrics, Head of Paediatric Rheumatology Unit, Department of Paediatrics and Adoles, Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic
Following graduation in general medicine at the Charles University in Prague in 1985 Pavla Doležalová started her medical practice at the paediatric department of the regional Czech hospital in Mladá Boleslav and then completed her 1st and 2nd degree paediatrics specialty education (1989 and 1992, respectively) at paediatric departments of two Prague university hospitals. Her interest in paediatric rheumatology dates back to the last year of her general paediatric training. As a subspecialty of paediatric rheumatology was not recognised in the country she applied for the post of a clinical research fellow at the Department of Rheumatology, University of Birmingham and Birmingham Children’s Hospital, where she trained in paediatric rheumatology and rheumatology research under professors T.R.Southwood and P.A.Bacon during a one year stay in 1996. He current academic post at the 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague, Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine started in 1997 with a 14 months break in 2002-3 when she worked as a consultant paediatric rheumatologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London. She became associated professor of paediatrics in 2005 with the thesis “Theoretical and practical aspects of specific investigations in paediatric rheumatic diseases” and a full professor in 2013. She has been one of the first members of the Paediatric Rheumatology European Society (PReS) where she served on the Council as a chair of the Clinical Affairs Committee and vasculitis working group. Since 1998 she has also been a Czech national coordinator of the Pediatric Rheumatology International Trials Organisation (PRINTO). Her current post is that of the lead physician of the Paediatric Rheumatology and Autoinflammatory Diseases Unit at the General University Hospital in Prague which has become one of the expert centers of the European Reference Network RITA. She chairs the Paediatric Rheumatology Working Group of the Czech Society of Paediatrics and guarantees paediatric rheumatology subspecialty education. Her main research interests include paediatric vasculitis, methotrexate, rheumatic disease outcome measures and autoinflammatory diseases. She is married and has 2 children born in 1986 and 1993.
