Tim Cheetham is a University Reader and Honorary Consultant Paediatrican based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, UK. He was appointed in 1996 following paediatric / endocrine / diabetes training in Oxford and Cambridge. In addition to his daytime clinical and academic responsibilities he has a paediatric diabetes / endocrine and general paediatric on-call commitment. Tim Cheetham has a major interest in paediatric thyroid disorders and is the lead for 2 multi-centre clinical trials that will answer key questions about the treatment of young people with thyrotoxicosis. Over the years he has received funds from various sources including Diabetes UK, the British Thyroid Foundation, the British Society for Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes (BSPED) and the Medical Research Council. He has published in many areas of paediatric endocrinology with over 115 peer-reviewed publications. He has taught, tutored and supervised extensively at undergraduate and postgraduate level locally, nationally and internationally. He has a role within a number of national bodies including the congenital hypothyroidism (CHT) advisory board and he is currently BSPED chair. He is an Associate Editor of Archives of Disease in Childhood and is also a trustee and advisor to the British Thyroid Foundation (BTF).
