Jerzy Starzyk is a pediatrician, endocrinologist, as well as a pediatric endocrinologist and diabetologist. He obtained a PhD from Jagiellonian University in 1995. In 1996 he completed a 4-months pediatric endocrinology training in the Department of Pediatric Endocrinology at the University Children`s Hospital in Pittsburgh, USA. Since 2001 he has been running Pediatric and Adolescent Endocrinology Department at the University Children’s Hospital in Cracow. He has both scientific-didactic and clinical interest in pediatric endocrinology and diabetology, particularly in the field of sexual development and growth disorders. He is an author and co-author of above 200 papers published in the national and international peer-reviewed journals and more than 300 reports presented at meetings. He is a member of the National Board of Polish Society of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology, as well as the Chair of two National Postgraduate Schools of this society, endocrinologal and diabetological one which have been organized yearly since 2012 in Cracow. He is also a Regional Consultant in Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology. In 2010 Prof. Starzyk was awarded with The ESPE Scientist Prize for the best Pediatric Endocrinology Publication in 2009 in ‘Hormone Research’ in the category of Novel Insights from Clinical Practice. He has also been involved in doctor’s sport activity. He is a six times gold medalist in athletics at The World Medical and Health Games and in 2008 received the title of The Best Doctor Sportsman of The Year 2007 granted by The National Medical Chamber.
