Sir Terence Stephenson DM FRCP FRCPCH is a consultant pediatric doctor in the UK and chair of the General Medical Council (GMC). He was formerly Dean of the Medical School and Professor of Child Health at the University of Nottingham from 2003-2009. And the Nuffield Professor of Child Health. He was President of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health from April 2009 until May 2012. He then took up the role of chair of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges in July 2012. He became a member of the GMC council in 2009. In September 2014 it was announced that he would become the chair of the GMC, succeeding Peter Rubin on 1 January 2015. In October 2014 it was announced that he had been appointed as a panel member for the Independent Panel Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse. He has co-authored textbooks, written invited chapters and editorials, and published more than 150 peer-reviewed papers in academic journals. He has been described as leading by example.

After finishing his medical studies and his residency in pediatrics in his hometown of Barcelona (Universitat de Barcelona), Joan-Carles Surís received a scholarship to pursue a fellowship in Adolescent Health and a Master in Public Health (Maternal and child health) at the University of Minnesota, USA. Upon his return to Barcelona he created and directed an adolescent outpatient clinic at the Institut Universitari Dexeus. In 2003 he received his PhD Cum Laude from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. In September 2003 he moved to Lausanne, Switzerland where he is the head of the Research Group on Adolescent Health at the Institute of Social and preventive Medicine and an associated physician at Department of Pediatrics, both at the Lausanne University Hospital. His main research interests are the psychosocial aspects of chronically ill adolescents, exploratory behaviors in adolescence and the relationship between adolescents and their parents.

Dr Jo Inchley is Assistant Director of the Child and Adolescent Health Research Unit and Senior Research Fellow in the School of Medicine at the University of St Andrews. She gained her PhD from the University of Edinburgh for work on the longitudinal determinants of physical activity in early adolescents. She has been a member of the Scottish HBSC team since 2005 and was recently elected as HBSC International Coordinator, taking up post in June 2015. Her primary research focus is on child and adolescent health and health promotion. Specific areas of interest include physical activity and sedentary behaviour, mental health and emotional wellbeing, school health, and spirituality. Jo is an experienced researcher and evaluator and has been involved in international work on child and adolescent health for over 15 years.

George A. Syrogiannopoulos has been Professor and Chairman of Paediatrics at the University of Thessaly, School of Medicine in Larissa, Greece since 2004. He received his M.D. from the University of Athens and completed his medical residency at the University of Patras, School of Medicine in Patras, Greece. Between 1984 and 1986, he was trained in paediatric infectious diseases at the Division of Paediatric Infectious Disease, University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas, Texas, USA. From 1986 to 2004, he was member of the Faculty of the University of Patras, School of Medicine in Patras, Greece. In 2003, he was elected as Professor of Paediatrics-Paediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of Patras. His clinical work is in the fields of general paediatrics and infectious diseases. His main interests in research are respiratory and central nervous system infections. He has evaluated pneumococcal nasopharyngeal carriage and disease before and after the initiation of universal immunization with PCV7 in Greece. He has published 70 articles in peer-reviewed international journals. Recently, he has been working on community-associated staphylococcal infections. He is member of the Editorial Board of The Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal and Chairman of the Committee of Scientific Affairs and Awards of the European Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases.
